The battle with the Ivy Heart, Firbolg Shell and Zombie Knights continues with Pretis alone with the Ivy Heart, Melisana grabbed by the Shell, Alhellara, Gofin and Mara amongst the Zombies and Demin and Lythandar trying to stay away from the enemies. The action was hot and heavy as a Zombie moved to face Lythandar and Pretis tried to escape the ivy vine grabbing her. Demin kept peppering the Shell with crossbow bolts as Gofin and Alhellara tried to hold off the Zombies.
Just as things started looking dim, the Shell fell in battle and a Zombie Knight also fell. Pretis escaped the grab but the Ivy Heart then created a Burst of Brambles that affected four party members. The Zombie Knight that was dead stood back up on his turn and restarted his attacks. Lythandar flanked the Zombie in front of him with his Hellhound. Just as things were looking up another Firbolg Shell arrived behind Pretis, now in real danger between the Ivy Heart and the Shell with no place to escape. Demin threw a cloud of steel at the remaining Zombies. Another Zombie fell to Mara's assault.
Melisana used Astral Step to teleport several party members around, Gofin and Mara to flank the Ivy Heart with Pretis, Lythandar, Demin and herself behind the large cairn out of reach of the Ivy tendrils. The Ivy Heart attacked again with Twin Vines, Mara was grabbed and Gofin hit the floor unconcious. The Ivy Heart then dragged Alhellara next to the "dead" Zombie who stood up and attacked. Pretis used an Inspiring Word on Gofin who slinked out of the battle. Melisana finished off another Zombie, who didn't stand up again apparently Radiant damage is really deadly. Lythandar shot magic missiles at the Heart and the Hellhound finished off the last Zombie, fire also apparently "deadly."
Pretis was still stuck between the Shell and the Ivy but the Shell kept missing her, meaning she wasn't losing Healing Surges. As the party finally dispatched the Ivy Heart they heard a scream of frustration, not from the Heart but throughout the chamber. The Ivy Heart rotted away to nothing almost instantly, as do the curtains of ivy hanging on the walls. This exposed the many scrawled runes beneath.
Under attack from all of the party members the last Shell succumbed at last and the party let out a sigh of exhaustion and relief. They decided to take a short rest before looking further.
Scorecard: The party received 1000 XP for the encounter with the Ivy Heart, Firbolg Shells and Dread Zombie Knights. They now have 25733 XP and need 267 more to reach 11th level.
