Haunted Battleground

The party ran into a group of Tovagian soldiers who yelled out some words such as, spy, Cavitius, kill them.  The battle was soon waged as the soldiers moved forward and some shot crossbows at the party.  There appeared to be a couple of leaders, soldiers with swords and halberds and crossbowmen.  As the battle was engaged the leaders of the Tovagian patrol did much damage to Pretis and Mara.  At one point Mara was knocked prone and when she tried to stand up a soldier knocked her down again.  Demin stayed at range and fired his crossbow into the battle while Gofin found herself engaged with a halberd bearing soldier.  Lythandar threw a fireball at the advancing group to soften up the soldiers.


Quickly Melisana, Mara and Pretis were bloodied but the Captain was blinded and then teleported out of melee range by Melisana.  The Sergeant scored a critical on a reaction against Pretis and down she went. Alhellara stepped in to grant healing to Pretis who was back on her feet but still weak.  The sergeant also caused damage with "For the Glory of Kas" as a soldier went down next to him.  The battle was fierce as the sergeant and captain, who reentered the battle after regaining his sight, led the attack.  Soon the soldiers and crossbowmen were eliminated and the sergeant finally fell.  The captain continued the barrage but soon also fell to the attack of the party.  After a quick rest the party searched the area and uncovered 400 gold and Elixirs of Reflexes, Will and Fortitude.

As the party continued on up the mountain pathway they came finally to what appeared to be the highest pass.  On the far the air was drier, smelled of ash and decay and the sky seemed less bright as the ash and mountains blocked out the sun.  As the party moved on they felt that the shadows were twitching and moving all around them but they couldn't seem to move any faster as the ash covering the ground mad if difficult to move with any speed without slipping.  The pass seemed quiet except for a few cries of carrion birds.  Pretis, Mara, Gofin and Lythandar soon heard whispers and distant cries of pain or anguish, and sometimes the sounds of battle echoing from far off.  

Just then a group of "shadows" moved into the party's path and soon they were joined by several others arising from the ground.  Alhellara and Melisana used Turn and Rebuke Undead to injure and move some of the shadows away from the group.  Pretis moved out in front to again attack but soon found herself of the ground and Alhellara had to use healing to revive her.  Gofin was using shrouds on shadows and Mara took the "Form of Mountain's Thunder" while Demin and Melisana kept up the attack.  Soon all the shadows had been dispatched and the party again took a rest before night fell.

Scorecard:  The party gained 843 XP for the two battles and now need 2074 to reach 9th level.  They also found 400 GP and Elixirs of Reflexes, Will and Fortitude.
